Is there a way to tell if a listed Volunteer Editor is still active?

Marc Nobbs ๐Ÿšซ

Hi everyone, debated between posting this here or in the Author Hangouts, but here seemed best.

Simple question, as per the title, is there a way to tell if a Volunteer Editor as listed in the author's section of the site is currently active? I made contact with someone whose bio seemed to fit what I was looking for in September, but have yet to hear back. I assume that must mean they are no longer active.

Given there are 177 editors listed, it could take a while to go through them all until one responds.

Any tips on this? thanks,

@Marc Nobbs

I believe volunteer editors have to reaffirm their status every so often but I have no idea how frequently that is.

It actually tells you at the top of the list...

List sorted by availability
Editors that have not checked-in in the last two weeks are not shown.
[177 Volunteers found]

So basically, every two weeks.

Okay, thanks both.

So, would I be better off starting at the top of the list and working down, or just putting a plea post in the forums, do you think?

Try both, you have nothing to lose either way.

Thanks, I'd forgotten where to find it and will no doubt do so again.

I wonder whether Marc's no-show editor will still be listed in two weeks time.

They are still listed today and I emailed him back in the middle of September. Maybe my enquiry just didn't float their boat.

Yeah, the system asks me if I'm available about that often, and for some reason, I have to keep saying 'No Time available'. (I signed up as a volunteer editor before I ended up writing a small story or two on here.)

Since it's stated that all editors must 'check in' every two weeks and you have not heard back from them in over a month, then you know two things. First, that they are not interested in editing the type of story you write, and secondly, that they lack simple common decency to reply with a simple, "I feel that I am unable to constructively edit the type of stories you write, I wish you the best going forward..." Which took me less than a minute to type. This tells you, that they lack the skills to even be a worthwhile editor.

It would certainly seem that way. Shame, because the bio really did fit what I was looking for at this point in the story development - that being a "general overview" rather than a deep-dive edit. More a "does this make sense and hold together" beta-read.

I've never heard of the volunteer editors section before. Is there also a volunteer proof reader section. I'd probably suck as an editor but I detest spelling misteaks ๐Ÿ˜‚

Is there also a volunteer proof reader section.

As far as I can tell, most volunteer editors limit themselves to proofreading. I suggest you volunteer as an editor but put in your bio that you only intend to do proofreading.
