Not sure if it's a bug or a feature, but editing the last post of a thread (and presumably any other post, too) doesn't change the 'Last updated' timestamp.
Feature I think, as generally we don't want to know about every little spelling fix; if you really want to force a new timestamp, post a dummy reply then delete it.
