When I am re-reading a story, as I advance from one chapter to the next, I often find myself at the end of the following chapter instead of the beginning. This seems random, as some chapters open at the top, others at the bottom. It is simple to press the "top" button at the bottom of the page, but I don't understand why this happens. More simple curiosity than presenting a complaint
The system tries to remember your last scroll position to return you to it.
This position is cleared from the storage if you scroll all the way to the bottom until you can't scroll anymore. If you don't reach the absolute end, then the position remains in the browser's memory.
So on re-reads, those chapters that you reached the absolute bottom of the page, start at the top. The ones you didn't reach the absolute bottom auto-scroll to that last position.

I made a couple of small changes. Now the position is cleared when the 'Chapter xx'/'The End'/'To be continued' line becomes visible on screen.
Also added the escape key as a trigger to start and stop auto-scrolling.
