Purging recent stories list

noggin ๐Ÿšซ

I am sure that I am t the only member who would like to be able to purge the recent stories list.

Any chance please?

Dinsdale ๐Ÿšซ

@noggin

You mean the one which is purged every 24 hours anyway?

If you are a Premier member you have the "History" and you can delete entries from that, although I see that has no effect on the Recent Stories list.

@noggin

You're not the first one to ask. I've purged one other member's history before.

But help me understand. Considering how useful the history is (used in the similarly tagged stories to not show you stuff you already saw, and filtering in the search pages), why would you want it purged?

Believe me, it matters not a bit to me as it takes a lot of room in the database to keep track of so many story accesses. But again, something so useful isn't usually discarded without a good reason.

I access a lot more stories than I actually read for different purposes: mainly getting data for the ReaderInfo site and help to other members searching lost stories. My search history in no way reflects my reading and thus is useless for the (otherwise useful) filtering you mentioned. You can delete my history and I won't miss it since it's useless to me.
There are more members that help in finding lost stories which 'pollutes' their history too.

In those case you can easily click the grey dot turning it green and that removes the story from your history.

I didn't know that would remove the story from my history list! I thought I had to mark them one-by-one in the history list and then remove them. Could you remove my current history list so I have a clean start?

I added a link at the bottom of the history page to clear history. You can execute it whenever you wish.

I looked at my "history," and it said I had 8 pages, displaying page 1. But when I click the > to get to the next page (or click on any page), the display reverts to "today's accesses." How do I get to pages 2 - 8? (Or is it operator error? Wouldn't be the first time.)

Bug. Fixed. Sorry.

@noggin

Would a person like to think that if he or she died suddenly an heir would open SOL and look at the Recent Stories list to find it mostly Matt Twassell stories, opened briefly for the brilliant illustrations.

I could do without the Recent list.

I need clarification here. What is it that you're referring to as 'Recent List'?

I mentioned history, but history is not usually just recent.

So which list are you referring to? Please post the URL of the 'recent list' you're referring to.

I am talking about the Recent stories list in "My Library" which includes a trail of stories I have read.

I don't know what the url is.

That appears to have introduced a bug.
Just as a test, I deleted one story from my "Historical Access" list - https://storiesonline.net/library/todaysAccesses.php?cmd=h.
Before this change it would have returned to the page and shown the list with that story missing, now it goes to https://storiesonline.net/library/todaysAccesses.php which just shows a blank screen.

Have I made the list I was referring to clear please? Every time I finish a story a line is added to the Recent Stories list. There are still no means of editing or purging it.

Updated:

@noggin

You turned it on. That list is actually an optional list in the library.

Click 'Preferences' in the library and look at line #10. If you have 0 (zero) in the field then the entry on the left will go away. That list gets purged also if you clear your history. But it only gets turned off if you put 0 in the field and click 'save settings'.
