Formatting of story descriptions

Quasirandom 🚫

When I enter a story description when I initially post it, high ascii characters such as m-dashes and curly quotes get saved down to hyphens and straight equivalents.

When I edit a story description, m-dashes and curly quotes are saved as-is and displayed as such in all places on this site that I've checked.

This is … inconsistent. And a little annoying.

I looked at the posting code and found one of the oldest unmodified code on the site and it did do away with em and en dashes. In the olden days I did that because some browsers had crappy support for such stuff and to save on bandwidth and storage space.

I've removed the function as its usefulness is now irrelevant.
