This started happening about a week ago. The Home page appears in the Classic mode as does the Author home page. But stories display in Dark mode. I have edited my Account preferences to no avail.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is this the classic Microsoft "It's not a bug, it's a feature." issue?

One would assume that if you select dark mode in your system, that you would want dark mode throughout.
I guess not.
You need to edit your 'Story Display Settings' preference and customize the look to whatever you wish it to be. Or switch to the white theme from the '< < ' menu.

My impression was that he tried dark mode, didn't like it and was trying to switch back to Classic but was still seeing stories in dark mode.

Maybe that's the impression he gave, but story dark mode is displayed only if the system is in dark mode. So his system must be in dark mode to get story dark mode on the default theme.
OK. This is caused by a Windows Colors setting change. Somehow that setting got changed (I am sure I did not do it myself on purpose). After poking around in the Windows Personalization settings I was able to get everything back to where it was before. But thanks for everyone's suggestions and observations.
