Underscore _ does not show on login page

My email contains an underscore in the name. On the login page, when I type my email the field shows a blank. I login successfully, so it is not a real bug, more a feechur, I guess.

Underscore displays correctly in this forum entry, doesn't it ?

ETA I tried to paste in a snippet copied from the logon page, but nothing happened. I guess that means it is not allowed, although as far as I can see it is not against the Forum Rules.

That happens a lot in all kinds of software. From experience I know that it often is caused by the text box being just a little to small at the bottom to display an underscore. You can see that an underscore is displayed just below the bottom of the other characters so you wouldn't notice it without an underscore. No matter what, Lazeez will figure it out.

The text box on the login page looks plenty deep enough to display the underscore. I was aware of that particular problem, but it didn't seem to apply in this case.

Looks can be deceiving ;) That the box looks big enough doesn't say anything about the actual area for the text. You could have a 'box' as big as the page and still encounter the same problem. To figure out such a problem I usually give the text temporarily a different background color so I can see what happens.

That seems to be a browser problem. I tested with my Mac using safari, Firefox and Chrome as well with my iPhone and in all instances the underscore was displayed just like any other character.

What's your system/browser?

Linux Mint Debian Edition with Chrome browser. I will try with Firefox as well.

ETA Windows 10 with Chrome browser on same PC, same display, the underscore shows.

The underscore displays just fine on the login page with Firefox on the same Linux system. So, thank you, yes it is a browser problem, with Chrome. Weird, as the login page is the only place where it happens.

And with Chromium browser on the same Linux system, the underscore does not display on the login page. So it looks like Chrome 'inherited' this feechur from Chromium.

Chrome is Chromium with the Google spyware added.

Chrome is one of many browsers based on Chromium code. Examples of big-name ones are Opera and (gasp) Microsoft Edge.

I've tried using Chromium, but something grates with me when I do. So (in general) I don't.

Not exactly. Those browsers aren't based on chromium, they use the same render engine: Blink. Blink is a fork of the original WebKit engine. So many browsers using the Blink engine is a bad thing because it gives Google way too much influence in the browser market since it's the developer and maintainer of the engine. If you're concerned with privacy there's hardly any other choice left than Firefox.

It appears you know more than Microsoft itself about Edge !

The new Microsoft Edge is based on Chromium and was released on January 15, 2020

is what it says on

It's not quite as bad as the old IE 6 situation, but we're getting there it seems. Too many sites now are doing the old 'works best in chrome' now. That specific support for Chrome is not a good in general for the state of the web, but Google's influence is strong enough that they've convince people that using Chrome is a good thing.

If you're concerned with privacy there's hardly any other choice left than Firefox.

Well, you have to be conscious about the implications even with Firefox. The default search engine in Firefox is still Google, so if you don't specifically switch from Google as Firefox's search engine, then you're still in the same position practically and most people using Firefox don't switch search engines.

What grates on my nerves is those who send me messages questioning me about the site tracking them and they send the messages using Chrome!

When I install a new Firefox: remove all telemetry in about:config,
disable all history and usage logging, remove all search engines, add DuckDuckGo search engine, disable crash reports.
Some other tweaks, but those are basic.

It's ignorance. Most Chrome users are not aware that Google (using Chrome) follows them from bedroom to toilet to mistress ;)

I like how every month I get a weblink "here's your new Timeline update" with my phone bill do to chrome being pre-loaded into my cell phone and is part of the bloatware that is unable to be removed.

Well, it turns out that it wasn't Chrome/Chromium after all but the monitor I was using, an old 24" TV. That TV/monitor just died. I now have a new Samsung 24" monitor, and the underscore displays just fine in Chrome.

Glad we got to the bottom of this. I would have never ever figured it out..

I had a similar issue with poor scaling of windowed rdp sessions, window size where remembered, but after one of the windows 10 Upgrade, the window title was increased by one pixel. Consequently, the remote screen was missing a random line. Took me ages to solve.
