Editor vs. Proofreader

Aiden Clover 🚫

One suggestion I had was perhaps adding a separate area for proofreaders and editors. After all, there is a difference between the two. Most of us probably do, but just for sake of having it in the open...

A PROOFREADER will look for misspellings, punctuation errors, and other grammatical errors.

AN EDITOR will actually look at the content of the story and make suggestions to improve sentence quality, structure, and even plot and/or character changes. It's a much more in depth process.

Many of our editors on SOL do both. TeNderLoin, for example, does both for me. Some new authors may not want an editor. They may be happy with their story and just want the proofreading portion. Some may want both. There may be some people who would be willing to be an editor but may not feel entirely comfortable being a proofreader and vice versa.

I think having a dedicated place for editors and a similar place for proofreaders would be a good thing to help future writers. There would likely be some overlap, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Separating the two would also give the editor and/or proofreader a better idea of what it is they are being asked to do when people contact them.

Just an idea!
