I've noticed that when using the "reply to topic" link, the reply is identical to replying to the OP, in as much as it automatically inserts the OP's name.
This has caused some confusion for those unaware of this bug.
I call it a bug as it seems to be a recent change.

Obviously there is a reason for the change. However it has caused confusion. Might I suggest that the link be changed from "Reply to topic" to "Reply to original poster" as in effect that is what is happening.
Changing the link would then remove the confusion.

When I "reply to topic" I'm not replying to anyone specifically, even the OP, just the topic, so I find it confusing. If I want to reply to the OP, I go to the top and reply to the first post.

I find it confusing too. When I reply to a topic it's specifically NOT a reply to the OP. Like Switch said, if I want to reply to the OP I reply to the first post from the OP.

I was the one requesting and I didn't berate anybody
I replied to the topic, not Eddie. I thought people were berating him. But when he saw me reply to him, he thought I was saying he was doing the berating. My "reply to topic" was a reply to everyone, not him, but it looked like I was replying to him.
