Curiously, this seems the kind of place where people who like to write and read could really have some great discussion as well as centralize information for long term and short term reference. I seem to be suffering from having been spoiled with the modern bulletin boards of today's internet, but wouldn't it be more fun for everyone of this site had such a BB? I'm not looking to recreate the wheel here, but I really love this site and what it represents in so many ways. Is there another place people congregate online to have discussions or do they just show up read their story and disappear until they have something to complain about? (Yes, i see the irony in that statement)

Just curious. Thanks for reading!

Yes, there are other ways of doing this. But they all involve and expenditure in money, time, and effort. Lazeez is very busy managing the story side of the site, and I'd rather he spent most of his efforts there. Managing the type of bulletin board you're talking about would involve a lot more of his time and money that is worthwhile.

I used to participate in a bulletin board like you mention, called Writers' Block, but it closed down. At first it lagged behind due to the person running it not having the the time or money to buy software updates or keep uploading them to the system. Also, the cost of the hosting service was a lot as well. This forum doesn't use a fraction of the resources needed for a fancy BB, and thus a more suitable answer for Lazeez.

The forum may be a little limited, but it does provide all we really need, and at no cost to us, and minimal cost to Lazeez. I much prefer this forum to the way it was on Google Groups.

You are right. This is night and day over the Google Group mess. Almost every time I visit the site, including after I read a story and return "Home" to get ready to search for the next one to read, I click on Forum to see what everybody is saying.

I used to spend a LOT of time on different writers' groups on LinkedIn. Being a professional site where everyone uses their real names, it keep the responses civil (no one wants to piss off a future employer or publisher by mouthing off and insulting someone). However, because it took so much to maintain, LI decided to constrain the limitations of their forum sites, and many groups quit the site. The LI site has never recovered, as most of those who frequented those forum groups moved on when their favorite discussion groups left.

CW, a lot of people leave sites when they down grade the services they offer to cut costs and resources. But few leave a site because it maintains the low level of services it started with.

The site's focus is stories and this is just an additional place to discuss things so it will never have a full fledged, every feature including the kitchen sink, type BB.

But I'm curious, what features do you miss from a 'Modern BB' that you think this forum could benefit from?

I'm curious what he considers a "modern BB" in computer terms, BBs are relics of ancient history.
