I love the addition of the Mail link on top of the forum screen. However, I just realized it scrolls up (out of view). So unless I'm at the top of the thread, it's not visible.
Could you make that line fixed so it doesn't scroll up and out of view?
At the bottom of each (other people's) post there are four symbols, respectively for Reply, Report abuse, Goto top, and Send Private Message. So, just click on the little up-arrow to get to the top and so the mail link.
I detest the floating navigation bars that behave as you seem to desire; besides permanently occupying screen real-estate, sometimes they lag behind the scrolling and I can hit the wrong link if I'm too fast, and sometimes they interfere with text selection when this requires auto-scrolling. So, I vote NO THANKS.

They have their function but I agree that they must be used very sparingly. On the readerinfo.net site we have exactly one page out of almost a hundred that has it (page). In the case of the forum page? Nope, not really needed.

Sorry, static bars are not very good for user experience. For each user that likes them, there are few more that don't. And since the 'Mail' link doesn't update with unread messages while it's displayed on screen, then keeping the navigation bar stuck on top of the window is useless.
As @madnige said, just click the up-arrow and you'll be at the navigation bar. Or tap your home key on your keyboard. (fn+left arrow on MacBook).
