Chapter Index on downloaded stories

Dinsdale 🚫
Updated:

I'm not sure if this is by accident or design, but two stories I have downloaded recently both had the chapters in the index spread across the page rather than beneath each other.

Chapter 01 Chapter 02 Chapter 03 Chapter 4A Chapter 4B Chapter 5A Chapter 5B Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8A Chapter 8B Chapter 9A Chapter 9B Chapter 10A Chapter 10B Chapter 11

Of course each one is a link, but they really do look like that. This particular tale is from 2007.
Just to add to the confusion, I downloaded another (new) story a few days ago where the line breaks were "normal".
I can't remember what the other story was where the breaks were missing, it was probably a new one but I can't be sure.

*edit*
Ages of Flight by Cutlass has the same "problem", as does Crumbly_Writer's newest offering.

It appears the href links are no longer trailed by a br tag. I found a zip from earlier this year and there each href has a br tag after the closing /a tag which causes each link to start on a new line.
If you want every link on a new line just add a br tag after each link although I think this is a little bug that slipped in while Lazeez was refactoring some code. It's probably fixed in minutes knowing Lazeez' reputation in fast bug fixes ;)

Yes, but not always. I downloaded Tedbiker's The Bare Necessities (for example) and the breaks are there.

Just downloaded it and checked: no line breaks. It seems you downloaded that one just before a change was made in the code. You can download it again and check for yourself. It would be really weird if it just occurred randomly.

@Keet

oops - you are right.
The story I downloaded seven days ago was "Just a Little Ride" ("The Bare Necessities" was also in the Oscar series, also December but December 2017) and the line-breaks are missing there as well.

Problem fixed.

I didn't catch it during the changes because I test the way I think a system should be used. As in, I don't open the index file, I open the 'default.html' file in the browser and that shows the index on the left and even though there are no < br> tags, the links line up correctly.

(I've been away for a day)

The fix works, but it appears that was not the only change on the page.

I first thought those two missing lines had vanished with the line-break fix but they were already missing.
(yes, I know those are different stories but the change is obvious)

I first thought those two missing lines had vanished with the line-break fix but they were already missing.

When I was making the changes to the archiver scripts I decided to omit most superfluous info. Since the story title, author name and copyright notice are on the cover, I removed them from the index.
