Missing Search Engine Stories

hhmjr ๐Ÿšซ

When I highlight and click on DoOver stories in the Category Search engine, certain DoOver stories are not listed. Examples include A New Past by Charlie Foxtrot (8.89) and Demigod by cogito (7.78). Why does the search engine omit these labeled DoOver Stories?

@hhmjr

Check your category exclusion preferences. You're excluding the 'slow' tag and these stories have it.

At the risk of upsetting Lazeez you can avoid the risk of getting wrong preferences by searching with Google: both stories appeared amongst the (about) 50 doover stories listed there.

The format (for those new to Google) is

There is also a nice handy check box to override your exclusion preferences.

Upsetting me? Hah...

Your query via google gives you 57 pages of results with multiple duplicates and no control whatsoever of the returned results. And you'd never know if something was missing.

The category/tag search page can deliver all the entries (8 pages) sorted by your preferred criteria.

Many members revise their choice of excluded categories after an episode like this one. I always caution members when I notice a large number of excluded categories. Maybe I should set an upper limit to how many categories a premier member can exclude. That way they'll have to consider their choices wisely and eliminate many wide ranging codes.

If you do this can you adjust the category page so a person can exclude every category in a grouping - i.e. put an option in the green bar for the category that will affect everything in that category group. This would be very useful in the advanced category search form where I often search to find a story for someone looking for one - being able to make the one click to exclude or include a group will make life easier when doing a search. The + or - option in the green bar may only need the code to mark everything in that group that way, but it will make a search easier.

I'd recommend against that. All it will do is generate complaints. The members are adults. Let them make adult decisions.

I personally have zero exclusions. I want to be offered everything and then make the choice. I just read a very good story that had some m/m in it. I assume the code was listed. It would have been a shame to have missed that story.
