Collections?

richardshagrin ๐Ÿšซ

Looking through fairly recently posted serials I noticed one, or maybe two that aren't, really. Not to pick on any one author, but collections of jokes or poems, even hundreds of them, don't make a serial.

Insert joke about Oakmeal and Acorn Flakes as breakfast serials. Mighty Oaks from little Acorns grow.

Serial stories are stories, with characters that continue through different adventures and often locations. Poetry and Jokes don't have plot or continuing characters or any particular order in which they should be read. Possibly there could be a new category that is not serials and not stories. Non-Fiction?

I doubt it is worth while to establish a new category for continuing work that has different heroes, different plots, endings for the particular joke or poem rather than for the series as a whole. Its kind of like Series or Universe in which each individual day's post fits. Depending on how much work it is for Management (I can't spell Lazeez) perhaps future collections could be set up as individual stories and combined as a Universe? Or not, nothing is impossible for the person who doesn't have to do it. When I see serials with well over a hundred chapters I wonder if I start it, will I live long enough to read it all.

What's wrong with making them all short (single-chapter) posts? I can see having 200 jokes posts, instead of creating a new story type. However, what would be really is if the 'jokes' and poetry ran into short story (multiple chapters), then it would be confusing!

@Crumbly Writer

I have seen times that jokes and poetry are included in novel length stories because they fit the story. A special category probably wouldn't work for everything. Better to just have a tag maybe when its needed.

If the jokes, quotes or poetry is in a story, then it's a subplot or formatting feature (like including a poem to accompany each chapter), instead of stand-alone elements. I think what we were discussing were the 'Jokes & Giggles' posts which consist of hundreds of single page jokes.

I don't see a problem as long as they're all single chapter stories, but I'd have a problem if they were packaged into a group.

I used the new Search facility to look for "Jokes" and this was the first topic I found.

I wanted to mention a joke for today, Friday the 5th of May. Since it is Friday, you should fry something Mexican. Mexican because it is the Mayo Clinic Sinko DDay, the Sinko D Mayo.

I've learned, after several failed attempts, that Mexicans don't take being fried very well. 'D

So why do they drink Tequila? For some values of "fried".

While doing a web search I found the following that involves fried tequila.
"How many times have you found yourself uttering a phrase resembling, "I just want to get drunk without actually drinking"?

Well, your prayers have been answered. Deep-fried tequila actually exists.

No, you don't have to travel across the ocean to get your hands on this tiny miracle. Thanks to Oh, Bite It! there is a recipe that I'm personally dying to try. It doesn't even require that much effort or cooking skills!

If you're an over-achiever, you can make an angel food cake. But, if you're lazy like me, simply go out and buy a cake.

The next step is to cut the cake into small cubes and soak them in tequila. Deep fry the small bites in oil until they are golden brown. Top them off with powered sugar and enjoy!"
