Help! My latest chapter got cut off!

Baltimore Rogers ๐Ÿšซ

When I posted chapter 17 of my story "Discipline and Reward", I pull in a moderator note, asking the moderator to PLEASE not cut off the "Next Chapter" teaser at the bottom of my chapter. I have found that if I don't explicitly say that, the teaser gets cut off.

Well, in spite of the mod note, the teaser got cut off in version 1.00.

So I reposted the chapter with a mod note saying "Please, Please, PLEASE, don't cut off the teaser." Version 1.10 was posted promptly, but THAT version was missing about a third of the chapter, and, of course, the teaser.

So I have changed the story end note to warn about the missing content. Although it's pretty obvious something's wrong, the chapter ends in mid-word. I just wanted the readers to know I knew and was trying to do something about it.

Then I reposted again... Several hours ago... The repost is still in the queue last I checked.

What, if anything, can I do to insure this sort of snafu doesn't happen to me again?

I added this text to my end-of-story note: "UPDATE: (Monday morning) Apparently I have not succeeded in getting the attention of the site admins. Ch 17 has now been broken for over 8 hours. You have my deepest apologies."

How can I get the attention of the site admins? How can I avoid a fiasco like this in the future?

They don't sit around waiting for work to come in, they have other jobs as their full-time employment. You've lodge a request to the Webmaster and with the uploaded file, they'll get to them when they next log on. Lazeez is often on the road and is restricted in when he can access the site while away from home.

Did someone get hurt? Seriously though, in my experience, the admins on SOL always react very fast and are extraordinarily helpful. The one thing you need to be aware of is the time zone the side belongs to. It's EDT in summer and EST during winter. Don't accept your postings will be proceeded or your requests answered while they are peacefully sleeping on the US east coast.

Several hours ago.

From past interactions I believe one or more of the moderators logs in at least once every 12 hours, and sometime more often, depending on what they're doing that day. If on isn't well, then the time-frames could be longer. I don't worry until it gets longer than 24 hours.

I forgot to ask earlier, in what format are you uploading the story file, and how big is it in the number of characters? They make a difference to how the file is handled by the Wizard.

Also, the Preview software isn't the same actual software as the Wizard, although it's very close.

Just a thought. Uploading is far slower than downloading. If you are using a slow device or a slow or unreliable connection, it might be cutting out before the upload is complete.

I forgot to mention, one of the moderators doesn't seem to get involved with the fixing of errors, beyond posting the file you just reposted. Thus Lazeez usually ends up with the job of fixing posting errors when it's his shift.

Another thing I've found is if you have just one piece of the code wrong it screws up the post from that point on, or somewhere after that - depending on the fault.

I switched to uploading approved html code because there's another website I can check the code through before uploading.

Could you point us to it? It could help others.

@Capt. Zapp

I use the website at

https://validator.w3.org/#validate_by_upload+with_options

for code validation after making sure the only code used abides by what's in this below, which I wrote after combining the existing site information and some extra I learned from Lazeez and trial and error.

Thanks EB. I'm sure I won't be the ony one who appreciates it.
