Forum: Bug Report and Feature Requests

Forum Header Menu

awnlee jawking ๐Ÿšซ

From the 'Forum' menu, I chose 'All Threads by Date', and clicked on a topic, after which the header menu showed:
Home " Forum " Story Discussion and Feedback " All Threads by Date

I commented on one of the posts and the header menu stayed the same. Then I clicked on 'Refresh' so I could see my comment, and the header menu changed to:
Home " Forum " Story Discussion and Feedback

Is there a reason the 'All Threads by Date' is dropped from the header menu? I would find it more convenient if it were retained.

I suspect it because you leave the Forum: All Threads by Date Page when you go to the discussion.

I have the All Threads by Date Page bookmarked and go to that, then when i wish to review a discussion I use the scroll wheel click option to open the relevant discussion in a new tab for that thread. When I post a message it goes through that process for the thread where the message is posted.

No, it stays until after I've made my contribution to the discussion and clicked on refresh.

EB is at least half right. Once you click on refresh it loses the information on how you got to the thread. According to Lazeez, there is no way to fix that.

when you click on refresh you're refreshing the page your in, the thread with the post you just made - not the page you were at before that.

That item is set using the HTTP Referer page, so if you come to the thread from the all threads page, then you see the link to go back. When you refresh, the referer become the thread itself and you lose the 'All Threads'.

I could make it hard coded to remain available all the time, but it would be inconvenient on phones as it would cause the navigation bar to become too big when it doesn't really need to be available. So it's not a bug that it disappears just a (maybe annoying) side effect of how browsers work.

Okay, I've found a circumvention. If, instead of using the SOL refresh, I use my browser's refresh function (note - I've only tried this in Chrome), I get to see my update and the Forum Header Menu remains unchanged.
