When non-Premier members do a category search, why are Premier-members-only stories returned in the ten results?

Why not?
There are so few stories that are premier-members-only compared to free stories (157 out of 39,600+) that it would be very rare to get one of those stories in the results.
Regardless, considering that less than 1% of site users pay for the service, this 'annoyance' isn't relevant much. Plus, consider those rare stories as ads that are displayed on the site for the site itself.
Yes, I understand the business model. But at the bottom of the page is 'need more, sign up for Premier', so further ads strike me, as you say, as an annoyance.
I only hit one in my search, and it was presented first since the list is alphabetical. I wonder if searches with other criteria turn up more.
BTW, I'd have no idea what you'd do about it even if you were so inclined, because the fixes I thought of would involve a disproportionate amount of work. But I thought it was worth pointing out.
