List of Abandoned or Yanked Stories?

Vincent Berg 🚫

I raised this point in another thread: https://storiesonline.net/d/s4/t1356/a-lost-story-of-magic, but thought it important enough to raise here.

A list of authors with abandoned or removed stories might be useful for readers. While they can currently see how many yellow-flagged stories any author has, they can't currently see how many were removed, or whether a given author has abandoned the site permanently or not.

This would help in identifying stories which are no longer available, help readers relocate them, and identify authors who habitually pull stories.

Sometimes authors pull stories which don't work, or which they want to rework, so one or two missing stories wouldn't be a big deal, but if a large percentage of the authors' works are incomplete or missing over time, readers would know to avoid them. (Though, if an author quits in disgust, that's useful to readers as well.)

Unfortunately, I have no clue how to implement such an idea. It's just a suggestion for a useful feature to see whether it has any legs or not.

Go to your library (My Library) and click the 'Removed' link in the left hand column.

Wasn't aware of that feature. I'm curious, though. The listed dates only go back as far as March 2016. Is that a buffer overflow, limiting the list to only the most recent, or when you began keeping track?

@DS

As far as knowing when an author has abandoned SOL, one possibility would be putting something on the author's story page with the date the author last accessed SOL.

Of course, that wouldn't work for authors who stop writing but keep reading here.

No, but it helps to identify anyone who might have died, which is helpful, as there's often no other way to tell.

The list is limited to the most recent 100 stories. There are 4,544 entries in the deleted stories table.

Yeah, that's worth limiting. Though the 'never passed submission' entries aren't terribly vital. :)
