Have recently re-downloaded several story's using the EPUB format and now notice that a space has been added when ever an apostrophe (') is included in the text.
For example:
"but I'll start that now" results in "but I' ll start that now"
or "it's John's car" results in "it' s John' s car".
Have checked with the web page version of the storys and no such space occurs.
Unable to replicate the problem. Which means it's something on your end that's causing it, whether it's your browser, security software, something else...
However in investigating, I fixed a bug with story names with double quotes in them.
When reporting bugs like this, it would be very useful if you would actually use actual data, like actual story names, not made up one, it makes it much quicker.
The story's that appear to be affected are all by Lazlo Zalezac and include Thunder and Lightening, Betsy Carter, Emend by Eclipse and others.
All appear to have being recently edited (which is why I re-downloaded them). My Ebook reader is a Kobo and it has no issues with many other ebooks I have down loaded from this site.
Are you using a monospaced font?
I've done a text comparison between some of the chapters in versions from 2022 and this year for Betsy and Emend, and while some errors have been corrected (and some new ones introduced) there are no differences that I noticed in apostrophe use. However they are "fancy" apostophes - in Courier font, they show to the left of the character, leaving an apparent space, while a normal one is in the centre.
In Emend, the only 'normal' one I see is in the info page (story description) in "He has a chance to make things right, but he's not sure what that means."
Chapter 1 Para 1 has "The story's actual beginning" which is 'fancy' and looks like an extra space.
What do you see with those?

Edit to add: - I have just noticed that the Forum uses a Seriph font, while the Edit box is Sans-seriph - *shrug*.

Sorry, my original response was a misunderstanding. I thought it was about the downloaded file's name and not the text inside the EPUB.
The text inside the EPUB is an exact copy of the text displayed when you click a story on the site.
Check the story in the EPUB file and compare the text in the story on the site. They should be the same.
If you don't see the extra space on the site, and you see the extra space in your EPUB reader, then the problem is with the reader itself or the font it's using to display the text. Try changing the display font in your reader.
