Unable to login via https://login.wlpc.com

fadenz 🚫

I am unsure if this is connected to the reports of 503 Errors or the problems loading the page or the issues with access from New Zealand.

I am in New Zealand which has recently had a restriction or blocking of some sort place on Storiesonline.net that results in 503 errors.

Given that I have no desire to live without the stories and authors on SOL, I purchased Express VPN so I could once again access the SOL site. I can now get to the site and read the stories, however I cannot seem to login via 'https://login.wlpc.com'

When I get redirect from SOL to 'https://login.wlpc.com' and put in my user name and password it just reloads to 'https://login.wlpc.com/index.php' with no apparent approval or re-directing me to the SOL site. It is also the same issue for the other WLPC sites - Story Room and SciFi.

The only way I am able to login and post this is by resetting my password, once I enter the reset code sent to my email address then put in a new password it logs me in and redirects me to the SOL site.

I have taken the following action to try and solve this problem:
- Tried using Chrome, Firefox and MS Edge on PC
- Tried using Chrome on Android
- Tried normal and private windows
- Ensured the Java is enabled in browser
- Turned off adblocking to WLPC and SOL sites
- Added WLPC and SOL to whitelist/exceptions list
- Added the Express VPN extension to Firefox
- Tried different ExpressVPN protocols and servers locations

Any help to resolve this if others have had issues would be greatly appreciated. I have attempted self help based on the last 3 hours of reading forum posts and going through a process of elimination, but I have been found lacking by the login gods.

@fadenz

The only thing that seems to (mostly) eliminate the 503 is to allow "fingerprinting". This is a setting in the Brave browser. Firefox may have something similar.

This is a problem all over the internet which just started a few days ago, it affects sites such as FlightRadar24, and even Walmart. So not directly connected to any censorship, I think.

@irvmull

I have had a look at this in Firefox and it is included in their 'Enhanced Tracking Protection' protocol which I have turned off for both SOL and WLPC sites.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-protection-against-fingerprinting

In my current situation I can read stories as a guest and don't get any 503 errors since I started using the VPN. I just cannot login.

Appreciate your comments and it definitely made me go back and check this aspect, thanks.

The log in system is not behind a proxy, and nothing has changed on it. It is handling the log in load as usual, and all testing shows everything as normal on our end.

If your problem happens only when using the VPN, then something in the VPN software/servers is interfering and I have no idea how to diagnose that.

One thing that you need to make sure of, is that the password you're using is correct. So if you're using a password manager or multiple managers, then you need to make sure they're all saving the correct password.

Once you're sure the password is correct, here is how you log in:

1 - Turn off your VPN

2 - Go to Scifistories without the VPN and log in using a normal window/tab (not private, and not incognito). Do NOT log out so that the cookies remain in your browser.

3 - Turn on you VPN

4 - Go to storiesonline in a normal window/tab and click log in.

5 - You'll be redirected to login.wlpc.com and since the cookies are present, you'll be redirected right away to SOL without being asked for your password and you'll be logged in.

As long as you don't log out and you always use a normal tab/window, you should never have to log in.
