I am about to change my broadband to giffgaff and I get this error message
99% of other sites work ok

Generally, that means:
* Computer or Browser too old.
* Crappy AV/Proxy/plug-in.

@Gauthier

Had the same thing happen to me. I don't remember but I think I just refreshed the browser (Firefox) and everything cleared up, Not really sure what caused it to foobar in the first place.

One other way I might have fixed it. I use a VPN religiously. I know I had one problem that I cleared by dropping the VPN connection and then reconnecting.

I don't think it has anything to do with my equipment
From my tablet [android 12] and phone [android 14] i get the following:

the site can't provide a secure connection

sol sent an invalid response

I get a similar response on a wifi with family filter enabled. Might that be a default from your provider?

See if the site allows you to white-list sites.

What you're describing is something in middle of the connection interfering. It happens when you try to use a wifi that requires login (like on airplanes or other public wifi), and they block the site while not logged in.

I wouldn't call that a 'Fix'. Security is to make sure that no one is snooping on your connection. By disabling this security, you don't know who is doing what, and you bypass being sure you're actually connecting to SOL.

@sherlockx

If you can connect on HTTP (normal) but not HTTPS (secure), it's worth checking your computer clock is correct, as the secure connection requires the clocks to be in reasonable synchronisation; I've seen claims that up to 5 mins error is OK.

Windows Technet the 5min is default and configurable.

from How much clock asynchronicity can secure protocols tolerate?

Edited because while I can copy-paste text into the edit box across a VNC connection, I can't do the same into the [link] button edit box
