Several forum threads have persisted over multiple weeks and attracted tens of replies. Does anyone think a 'Bottom' or 'Most Recent Post' facility would be useful?

When I check the forum it indicates which threads have new/unread post (green dot) or no new post (grey dot). When I click on a thread with a green dot it takes me to the first unread post.
Browser is M$ Edge if it matters.
Interesting. Unless I'm missing something, that doesn't seem to work with Firefox.
I use Firefox and it works exactly as Shark said
EDITED TO ADD: I use Windows 7 on a PC

I use Firefox and it works for me, as long as I'm logged in.
The forum software instructs the browser to scroll to the first unread post. Some browsers don't handle this correctly.
On my mac firefox scrolls correctly. I guess on XP some things don't work even in the most modern version of Firefox.

As long as I'm logged in (to SOL), it works correctly.
If I'm not logged in, new threads show as unread, but they don't scroll down to the new comments and when I go back to all threads by date, the thread doesn't automatically update to show it's been read.
Again, this only happens if I'm not logged in to my SOL account.

The forum as I designed it, works when you're logged in. In visitor mode, it just displays the thread with no other functionality.

I kind of figured that. I wanted to put my experience on the thread in case some of the others having issues are not logged in even though they might think they are.
That was how I originally encountered the issue I had. I came directly to the forum, not realizing that my SOL account was no longer logged in.
When I mouseover the button at the side of the thread title, it shows javascript:mr(number); or javascript:mu(number); but clicking on the button does nothing other than change mr to mu.
Oh, the joys of XP which, sadly, I need to run 32 bit maths software :(

Have you checked with software co. to see if they offer a later version or if it will run on a newer OS? The reason I ask is that I had some insurance adjusters software that they claimed would only work on XP or Vista. My son as an experiment loaded it to an 8.1 laptop it was slow to load but ran fine once loaded. Just a thought.

If it really won't run under a later OS with XP compatibility selected, as long as you've got a valid key for your copy of XP you can run it in a virtual machine on Vista onwards.

Or you can us Linux and run it either WINE or CrossOver which work like emulators or Virtual Box which is a virtual machine program.
According to the WINE testers, the user interface works but not the more sophisticated functionality.

Is that for the specific program or in general. In the past I've used WINE for a lot of programs and they worked well. However, for some you get a better performance using CrossOver, and the best is to use a virtual machine program.
If your hardware is 64 bit, then you're much better off running something like Zorin Linux and using a virtual machine program like virtual box to run Win XP in and your program within Win XP. That way you sometimes get some of the 64 hardware capability used on the final program.

The threads open at the lats unread post, if all are read it opens at the top - using Waterfox on Win 7 Pro - - Waterfox is a 64 bit variant of Fire Fox
