Intellectual exercise #1 needing input from some lawyer types

blackjack2145309 ๐Ÿšซ

Now i'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but if i'm wrong i apologize in advance.

Well i've been brainstorming for a story i'm writing and I guess i want some input from a lawyer type's perspective on the fictional scenario I have in mind.

Ok a client comes into a female lawyer's office and tells her that monster girls are real. Monster girls are half human female, half animal type creatures. The client event goes as far as presenting tangible evidence that monster girls are real by introducing the lawyer to one of the monster girls (or something else)

The question is, what's going through the lawyer's head as she meets this monster girl?

I asked a similar question to this on a different website and got some answers along proving the intelligence of the monster girls but not much else.

Here's a few questions?

what would go through your head if someone brought that to you?

Why would the lawyer's reaction to the existence of monster girls be different from yours? It's not like that is an issue in the lawyers area of expertise.

Why go to a lawyer for that?

You go to a lawyer for legal help/advice, what's the legal question here? It might be one thing the person raising the existence of monster girls was a friend of the lawyer, but you explicitly said they came to the lawyer as a client, so there has to be some sort of legal issue.

Ok, I admit maybe i didn't make it clear enough. In this universe i'm writing Monster girls aren't known to the public. So i'm wondering what legal issues a lawyer would see for example if they were exposed? or what would be going through the lawyer's mind when he/she met the monster girl?

I was presuming that.

I am not a lawyer, but to my mind, the only plausible legal issue from their simple existence would be does the law consider them people or animals? And now lawyer could answer that question because with their existence previously unknown, there could be no statutory law or prior court precedent on the issue.

what would be going through the lawyer's mind when he/she met the monster girl?

Why would the lawyer's reaction be any different from anyone else's?

Larry Correia has a series of books with a similar plot device. Monsters are real. They are not considered human by the government.

The MiB (Monster Control Board) will kill, intimidate or brain wipe humans who find out the truth.

They kill any human that gets turned.

Select monsters can buy second class citizen status and a reprieve by serving in black ops.

Elves are real and currently trailer park trash, the Govt. uses welfare to keep them 'On the Rez'

Orcs are real, civilized and love death metal and attack helicopters (More Dakka trope).

Vampires are not sparkly and consider humans to be 'blood bags'.

Werewolves have different levels of intelligence and capability based on their pack status.

There is also a basement dwelling troll named after the worst internet troll Mr Correia dealt with as a forum mod.

Mr Correia latest book was released this week, which is why i thought of him in relation to your question.

What would be the plot implications of the revelation for your story?

Is letting the lawyer know the truth going to create danger for them with that universe's MiB in the wings? Is the lawyer a govt. functionary with requirement to report? A probate lawyer determining if the MGs can inherit, a judge in chambers trying to determine if human rights or property law apply? A porn lawyer wondering if he has the new fetish locked down or risks guaranteed bestiality charges? A secret satanist who thinks he has finally been rewarded by the dark lord for perverting justice? A Jesuit law prof worried about the status of their souls, or perhaps his soul for being attracted to them, a wills and conveyancing suburban schlub about to have his world view broken, etc.

Create the mindset and find the emotional conflict. Or create the conflict you want then write the character to match.

In addition to the story linked by StarFleet Carl, Mr Correia has some free short stories and sample chapters* of his novels at his web site. http://monsterhunternation.com/online-fiction/

Much like premium membership here, he hopes to seduce you into spending your dollars on the full book.

*The Pusher by Steppenwolf starts playing....

For me, that's happened a LONG time ago. I have every dead tree novel by him, David Weber, David Drake, and especially John Ringo. Throw Michael Z Williamson and Tom Kratman in there, with a little Travis S Taylor (the man really IS a redneck rocket scientist) for extra flavor.

I'll look into them. Thank you

Baen = cocaine. High quality brain candy. Why do drugs when you can do books.
All of the above to some extent, plus Flint, Freer, Niven ,Pournelle, Bujold, Spencer,Spoor, Stirling.

As we have veered off topic into favorite mil scifi authors, I really, really wish Random Writings would continue The Private. In my opinion one of the best sci-fi stories on SOL.
