The USS Abraham Lincoln has docked in Thailand with a crew of 5,000 sailors and marines who have been at sea for almost nine months.
I wouldn't dare try this, but somebody should try giving us a story about what things are like in Bangkok and Pattaya now. It might even be a novel.
Weren't there cases of crew jumping overboard before they put to port? In fact, wasn't that why they put into port? If true, I can't see them disallowing anyone from disembarking. The PR of crew committing suicide is going to be a lot worse than the PR of drunken crew puking and peeing in street corners..
Did anyone see the photos of the ship in port? The entire waterline is rusted. Looks like a 22 could pierce it. Makes one wonder how bad it is inside. And they still have weeks to go to get back to San Deigo where hopefully it will be put in drydock.
