Common trope: MC from our world transported into gameworld to be a Hero, right?

Well what about a nobody NPC from the gameworld transported into our world to be our Hero??

@ralord82276

I've seen a few with this story idea in the self-publish space, but not on SOL. The one that jumps to mind is a portal opening into a guy's backyard and fae start coming out, but I can't recall the author or title. If I remember I'll post again. Also, How I Met My Hot Alien Girlfriend by Danny Rogan is close, although from an SF angle.

Note, however, that doing this as LitRPG would be very difficult to justify.

In LitRPG you can see the game system. A lot of exposition is spent on explaining the system, stats, levelling, etc. If a book doesn't have this, it's not LitRPG, that's an absolute necessity of the genre. Game elements with a less visible system are GameLit, but that still requires some level of visible system.

The term you're probably looking for is Progression Fantasy. This is a type of fantasy in which the character increases in power and skill over time but there is no need for system visibility. Isekai is usually a type of Progression Fantasy.

Another good genre term here is Portal Fantasy. This is a very general term for any fantasy where someone travels from one world to another via a door. Chronicles of Narnia is a portal fantasy, as are many 'enter the computer game' types. Most GameLit, LitRPG, and Isekai can loosely be categorized as Portal Fantasy.

@Dicrostonyx

I was actually thinking LitRPG for a reason.

I used Free Guy Isekai as an illustration of that reason. The nobody NPC from a game world is aware or made aware of the gaming system governing his world but only the RPG Heroes can access it. When he somehow gets transported to our world, he can now access it thus becoming a Hero. But he still needs to level up and all the other RPG tropes just with our world as the platform instead of the game world. The visibility of the gaming system is key as it is something only Heroes can access. He never could before because he was a nobody NPC but now he can thus making him a Hero.
