A man (former soldier?) is part of an experiment (cyborg?) being conducted in an underground (cave?) facility in the southwest desert. He is something like the ninth or tenth person undergoing the treatment, and the previous subjects all went nuts or were terminated or both. They think he's a failed experiment too but he isn't. He escapes and hides out underground, and figures out a way to save (and rehab) the remaining two subjects, a guy and a girl. The second guy tries to take the other two over and gets killed for his efforts. I thought the title included something like, "Number Nine," but I could be disremembering it. I don't remember how it turned out.
