Story about a fast car being rebuilt I an inherited manor

stitchescl ๐Ÿšซ

In the US. There is a car wreck, a rebuilt car (maybe the one from the wreck), and twisty roads. This may be the same story, or a bleed through memory, but there is an underground garage with paintings and cars. Thinking about it, two different stories, both with inheritances. I think the first was in Atlanta, but maybe wrong. I hate remembering some details but having them jumble stories together. Happens with certain writers. Charlie, For Now, jumble's with Oyster50 on some stories, but these two aren't them I don't think.

Remembered a little more, the one with the underground was after the parents died, and the other had one of the parent's helping rebuild the roadster type vehicle.

Possibly the first one is https://storiesonline.net/s/16798/white-tigers-summer-of-fun by https://storiesonline.net/a/anthill-mob. That has the wrecked car rebuilt car with help from family.

Not that one, I remember that they ended up finding a crate in the garage with parts, and I think the mom was in a crash in the original car. I know that it was a family manor on a hill. I want to say it overlooked a jail and was in a bad part of town.

I can remember a story with someone getting a factory which has an old car in a disused warehouse on the grounds. When they uncover the car it is a Bugatti or an Hispano-Suiza or something like that, that was brought back from WWII. His father is a retired mechanic and helps him rebuild it.

Edit. - Just had a little look around and it could be "Better Than New" by Coaster2

I know - and like - that story but there's absolutely no way it fits the OP's description, you are also mixing the owner of the two cars - whose father "liberated" them in WW2 - and the MC who helps get them running again.

I understand about mixing stories, so, no harm no foul, unless you named the story. The two I described originally blended in my mind. The one with the crate of parts had them building/finishing the car for the daughter of one builder and maybe the girlfriend or half-sister or cousin of the MC. The other story had a brother and sister that were estranged when the parents divorced, an attic full of jewelry, and eventually a vault/fallout shelter full of treasure, actually there were two. One was in Grandma's basement, the other in the basement garage of a building. I remember a lot of the story, but nothing coherent enough to get a solid search from. Also, the fallout shelter MC's ended up being brother and sister, children of another brother and sister pairing, which was the reason of the estrangement. Somehow, the grandparents had the girl and the parents the bow, or something that separated the siblings, but they were best friends I think. Again, I remember weird bits and pieces.

In the story mimauk referenced, a factory owner had a good look at one of his unused warehouses and discovered two old cars in immaculate condition there, a Mercedes and a Bugatti. One of those was rare and valuable, the other rarer and more valuable.
He turned to the MC who turned to his own father and things progressed from there. They subsequently started restoring old cars, often in poor condition.

Thie MC in the story I reference was actually a pair of siblings who were separated early in life and ended up meeting and falling in love. This is story two though. In the car story, the MC was a teen and I seem to remember his father was a guard and the home was a family home that he inherited. I thought the dad was a jail or prison guard, but that didn't show up with the other search terms

I read a story where the father of a nasty son discovered the two cars. A Merc and it could have been a Bugatti. Both liberated in WWII. The Merc had belonged to a high ranking person, either in the German Army or a member of the Nazi party, (or both positions, not the cars). The factory owner did get with the MC and they got them appraised by a specialist from either Chrities or Sotherbys. Also the MC's father was helpful in restoring these and subsequent vehicles, much to the displesure of the wayward son. Sorry but CRS stops me remembering any names. Hope this helps as I would like to read it again.

I was on holiday for several days and don't bother to check the forum on my smartphone. You have found the story I was talking about anyway.

I do remember this story, though I can't remember the name. From what I recall, the provenance of the car actually was completely legitimate in the story. The owner had been a German officer, true, but he had come by the car legitimately, and then had sold it legitimately.

Wish I could remember the name of the story, it was a good one.
