MC in the woods stops a snuff film. Saves the women a rich Aussie that was kidnapped. They need to find the ship and stop the girls delivery to Atlanta. Plot has many twists and turns. Has crime lords, FBI. child welfare, and more. I can't remember how it ends. Memory is slipping along with everything else. Thanks for any help!

Fla is Florida

As far as state abbreviations go more people would be familiar with the two character postal codes. Florida = Fl

Even though the two initial abbr was implemented in 1963, they were still teaching the three initial when I was in school. I graduated in 1984.

Holly came from Miami, F-L-A
Hitchhiked her way across the U.S.A
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she

That's the opening verse of Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" - recorded August '72 - and the reason that particular abbreviation is known worldwide.

In Aug of 72, I turned 6. We didn't learn the state abbreviations until later. I just remember Ala and Fla, but I am from Ga, so they were close

Ala

Arabs prefer addressing Allah than Ala

considering Ala is a girls name in that part of the world, they probably prefer to undress ala.

That could be more dependent on where rather than when. I graduated high school in 1987. Where I went to school they were not teaching the three letter state abbreviations.

They probably weren't for me in 84, but when I was learning how to address letters, they were. This was Georgia, which is funny, since we were a two letter all along. But we were a neighboring state to Ala(bama) and Fla. For the purpose of this posting, it doesn't matter except to point out that the three letter state abbreviation is still valid, even if not on addresses.

I didn't say they weren't valid I had said more people would be more familiar with the two character postal codes.

Probably true, but Fla still pops Florida into my head first thing. Like I was saying, we are 'arguing' over nothing. I used to like 'discussions' with my grandfather, but they were often differing views on religion. This is like that, only in it is over something that doesn't matter in the long run.

If I knew it was supposed to be a state, yeah I would have gotten that. Without that context it doesn't particularly mean anything to me.

I can understand that. Me being from Georgia, and having been taught in school, makes me see the state before anything else.

I've only ever seen "Mass" or "MA" for Massachusetts, never "Mas." Mas is, of course, Spanish for "more" and those of us who live here will tell you that you don't want mas Mass.

Out of curiosity, how do you know what most people are more familiar with?

@PotomacBob

Usage.

Nearly everyone will have to mail something at some point and have to use the postal codes.

News articles: In the last 30 years, I don't think I've seen a news article that abbreviated a state name that didn't use the two letter postal code for that state.

I'm 52. I can't recall ever seeing three letter abbreviations for the state names used.

Sounds like maybe one of the early stories in Lumpy's John Taylor series. At least the kidnapping, Atlanta, FBI involvement, and stopping a snuff from happening.

The song for Fla I thought of sort-of fits SOL with the first verse lyrics:

Holly came from Miami, F.L.A.
Hitch-hiked her way across the U.S.A.
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she

Lou Reed's Walk On The Wild Side for anyone who doesn't recognise it.
