Everything Everywhere All at Once stolen idea?

shinerdrinker ๐Ÿšซ

Who has seen this? While it is an incredible movie, I felt a bit of "where has I seen this before?"

First, it is excellent. I highly recommend getting out to a theatre and watching this great movie.

I read a similar idea story here on SOL. But I can't remember the name of the story... it's on the tip of my tongue.

It is a long story, but the MC jumps through different dimensions and can remember what he in other sizes is an expert in and becomes a powerful force by living every life simultaneously.

Does anyone remember it?

That one came to mind after your description.

ETA: After looking up the movie, that story isn't the one. I've no idea if there is such a story on SOL. The movie description rings of Wuxia content.

Possibly PT Brainum's John The Genius series. MC can 'remember' all possible futures in all possible timelines, which means he knows everything about anything that he can study or experience.

Or possibly Deja Vu Ascendancy by AscendingAuthor https://storiesonline.net/s/57098/deja-vu-ascendancy

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!

We have a winner! I can't believe I didn't remember Ascending Author's epic winner! But in my defense, it has been a while since I read this incredible story, but it started ringing alarm bells while watching the movie.

Now while it is not a direct lift or anything like that, the idea of living in multiple dimensions and learning everything you possibly need to know from each life and recreating said talent perfectly. It was more than a fleeting feeling while watching the movie.

I'm not trying to start any trouble, but there are many ideas from this story in the movie. Don't let that stop you from watching this film. It is truly a delight and not easily forgettable.

Wow! Nice to hear directly from someone who liked it -- and you are far from alone. IMDB rating was very positive. As for me,... hmm. I was looking to get out of the house and wanted to see a movie and this seemed the best of the lot. Tried to get my wife to go, but she watched trailer and bailed. Not really her kind of movie, anyway, too much fantasy and weirdness. And, that turned out to be the same for me. I won't do spoilers here, but basically I found the bigger arc of the story -- the way the journey changed the character's situation in her "real" or "where-we-started" universe unsatisfying. Was that just from the after-effects of the action in the middle? Did she actually change and grow? Maybe their was some growth, but... just weird. Not nearly as clear as the character arc in, for eaxample, Back to the Future.

And, having said that, the movie is still fairly fresh in my mind, unlike a lot of books I read that I can't remember whether I read them or cared about them two weeks later - most just blend together. This movie isn't going to blend with anything, although in some ways I felt I was watching scenes in a blender as I sat in the theater.

(I'm having a real hard time justifying why I didn't like this more. Seems like I should have, but I guess my critical analysis skills are failing me, and my personal response sure seems out of sink!)

A lot of people have the same ideas. Every time I see that one of my "great ideas" has already been used, whether it was before the idea came to me, or after, I sigh. And there have been a lot of them.

Recently, a very popular video came out where the father and son have the same damn names as a father and son from one of my unwritten works. My brother just said, "Well, what are you gonna do?"

What does that tell me? I need to write faster.

Multiple lives, multiverse jumping, body jumping, all of that is nothing new, but thanks for the story and movie recommendation. I'm going to have to give both a look.
