Saw an advert for southern comfort that put a bug in my head. Some time ago, I think 4 or 5 years, I read a story where the lead character drank 1 or 2 glasses of southern comfort but not more because.....
I guess it was a longer story, that's my thing, and probably rags to riches or coming of age type of story. Maybe harem or empire building.
Not much to go on but strange how a stupid advert can trigger these kind of memories
Rlfj's A Fresh Start. Do over, MC goes back in time, finds and marries his wife again, but otherwise reboots everything. Gets a doctorate, joins the army. Becomes a venture capitalist, then a Congressman. Very long.
MC comes from a very disfunctional family and is subject to periods of moody introspection, when he drinks and contemplates the path that took him to where he is.
IIRC When in Washington and plotting with other Congressmen, a friends kid is dealing with cancer. He drinks Southern Comfort but limits his intake as he needs to be functioning and avoid depression.
Really? I just did a text search on that story and the only references to SC I found were:
- the duel where he "won" his wife (Chapter 28)
- talking about the duel (Chapters 50, 109, 146).
I could be conflating two different scenes. Anyway, OP has stated its not the book he's after. Any suggestions?

Of the other 86 that had the term "Southern Comfort" in them about half used it in a way that was clear they weren't referring to the alcoholic beverage, thus you have about 40 plus stories left to check out.
