I believe you are looking for a story written by dotB, not sure it is on this site. At the moment the title escapes me. However, the last time I looked it was incomplete. I think I saved a copy but I couldn't find it after a quick look.
Rustyken: You hit the nail on the head. I found it - the story is Chance of a Lifetime. It was never on SOL which is why I could not find it here. Anyone who knows about dotB/Kpelle can locate where the story is. As you say it is incomplete. Since we have not heard from him for several years it may never be finished, although he has had multi-year gaps in his output before. Kirby
