Protagonist comes back to himself as a teen, in an airport in UK, with abusive military family on the way back to Texas. Winds up in central Calif (Santa Barbara?) with the man who turns out to be his genetic father and his family. Dad owns a string of auto shops, grandfather's a retired (?) judge.
