I remember almost nothing about the story, but it was a do-over story, and the character remembered where they found gold later on (or maybe it was someone they'd sold the land to who found it?), and got them to find it early.
I know this isn't much (which is probably why I haven't been able to find it on my own) but hopefully someone recognizes it.
'Will to Survive' by Ernest Bywater has the lead character remember locations where gold was found from watching a TV special when he is catapulted back to the 1850s Southwest US.

Sadly, it's neither "Robledo Mountain" nor "Will to Survive"; to be more clear, the protagonist ends up back when he was a preteen or early teen, I'm not sure which.

That absolutely does not match the Lazlong stories.
If I'm not mistaken I seem to remember an older one about a young man out hiking who gets transported back and meets two sisters who had cholera and were left behind to die. I think their only weapon is something like a .25 caliber automatic he had in his pack. It takes place in the central Sierras somewhere around Lake Tahoe.
