I got this when I clicked on "Howard Faxon".

"Howard Faxon doesn't have that many stories.

That is strange since he has 125 stories on SOL.

@richardshagrin

doesn't have that many stories

Standard site error page when a page beyond the actual number of pages is requested. Probably because of a mismatch in the number-of-entries-per-page setting between link generation and link use accounts, although I have seen similar on the 'up for archive' page when refreshing after the list shrank enough that I was trying to refresh a page that no longer existed.

It's one of the reasons I use the 'Advanced Search' results; if you craft the search for a single result and remember to change the sort order before copying the link, you will always get the correct story info displayed if the story's still there, even if the page on the author listing has changed. Another sure alternative is to use the [More Info] link presented to Premier members, as this still displays the info for Basic members (ETA But, if the story is deleted and the story ID re-used, you confusingly get the info for a different story).

ETA: People complaining of this issue are loudly proclaiming that they have altered the default list length in their site preferences.

In other words, limab's original link is pointing to index page 4 of Howard Faxon's stories while richardshagrin's setting is to show more than 41 entries per page.

That's an interesting side-effect of making stories-per-page configurable.

I am wondering if Lazeez should point to the last index page if that happens - postulating 50 stories/page and 125 stories, that would be entries 101-125. I'm just thinking about the ramifications of returning entries 76-125, that would require passing index-entry-number instead of page-number and I don't think it's worth the effort.

I thought about this, and came to the conclusion it's insoluble as normal adding/removing stories could change the relevant page even with identical preferences, so I use the Advanced Search.

There's a problem with this link as it takes it to the odd page richard mentions. The link should be:

https://storiesonline.net/a/Howard_Faxon

but it reads as

https://storiesonline.net/library/author.php?name=Howard_Faxon&sf=alpha&so=asc&p=4

which makes me think it's a link to a search question and not the result.

@Ernest Bywater

Honestly, I tried to link to the page that had the story on it, but my "Preferences" are not the default and the link wasn't the simplest. I edited it. twice. It should work to the standard "Author" page.

Thanks, limab
