That is not a lot to go on.
The best one has the MC as being a girl and she decides unilaterally that someone else is going to be her father. Some time around then her original father decides to have her killed, a decision which does not go well for him. Todd_d172's "Needles and Delaney" series.
There is ElSol's "The Impression That I Get", it starts out from there.
Lazlo Zalezac's "Thunder and Lightening" also contains that theme although it is directed more towards the MC's son and is mostly off-scene. It also escalates.
"Hated" by Wrath's Child could fit.
Wtsman's "Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace" spills over into abuse.
I should have posted this in a different thread I meant for suggestions for stories of this type
If you are looking for a story where the mc becomes essentially invisible to his parents after a hate filled beginning and then successfully overcomes obstacles fate and family place in his path, the classic is A Fresh Start by rlfj.

I don't think that description of the story is accurate, he walks out on the family because of his brother - not because of neglect.

I haven't read the story in quite a while but I disagree. His parents are not loving and helpful, especially his mother. Meeting their standards does not get any special rewards and not meeting them gets discipline. His brother is not a wonderful person either, but the main character overcomes significant problems to reach success.
Look at the original request.

That does not apply to A Fresh Start. There is some borderline abuse in the story, but the word "ignored" does not apply until years after he leaves home, "forgotten" does not apply at any point.
The question being answered is not the one which was asked.
Really he didn't directly arrange it for the president to be there. Carl just set up a potential fund raiser for himself and the idiot in the WH insisted that only he would be at the Twin Towers to accept any and all donations personally. Carl just knew that The Man found money irresistable.
He let Bush think Carl was going to feel out the New York money men for support to run against Bush in the primary, then allowed Bush to take over the meeting. My take is Carl was a high functioning rational sociopath.
That is one of the obstacles he overcomes -- permanently. Course, neither of them was not a kid at that time.
What noone has mentioned is that he shot and killed his brother before he was elected president
Wasn't he elected veep? Then succeeded to the presidency when the President was in the twin towers on 9/11?
To be technical he wasn't elected veep. He and Bush were elected as a team. And yes, he maneuvered Bush to be in one of the towers on 9/11, to keep him from miring us in what followed.
That's not correct. We elect our VP and President as a set, but the VP is still an elected position. The only VP never elected was Ford, because he was appointed after Agnew resigned. Or are you arguing technically we haven't had a VP elected since the early 1800?

Technically very few people have voted for the US President. What is voted for is electors (which is the number of senators and representatives of their state).
the number of senators and representatives of their state).
Except for the District of Columbia, Washington, DC, the nation's capital, where the capitol building is. They get 3 the residents vote for in presidential elections, even though DC has no Senators and only sort of a Representative, who doesn't get to vote in the House of Representatives, but meets with those that do, when he or she wants and when the other Representatives are willing.
"D.C.'s nonvoting representative in Congress, Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, also testified at Tuesday's hearing before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. While Norton can introduce legislation in the House, she's not allowed to vote on bills that go before the full House." This from an online discussion of Washington, DC's chance of becoming a state, and getting two senators. The Democratic Party is definitely for this idea, the vast majority of DC residents vote for the Democratic Party's candidates.

Which isn't a state so it doesn't fall into "the number of senators and representatives of their state".
Which should never happen since it was set up as a separate division of land so no state could claim to have the federal government in its borders, that's why both Virginia and Maryland gave up land for it.but the democrats don't care about laws they don't like.they have been trying to get Puerto Rico made a state since I was a kid and the people of pr vote no every time.
It will only happen if Texas is divided into five states. The Republicans would then go along because the Democrats would gain four senators (DC & the Peoples Republic of Austin) and the Republicans would gain six.

But you still vote for president. Just because there's a mechanism in place doesn't mean you're voting for electors. Votes are tallied in the name of presidential candidates, not electors.
