I'm not sure where I read it, but I vaguely remember a story in which the protagonist was a werewolf who regularly went peeing round their property boundaries to discourage incursions from other werewolves.
Can anyone help in tracing this story?

I don't know which is more ridiculous, the fact that this is the detail you remember or that it actually rings a bell with me. Except if I read a story with this detail I'm pretty sure it wasn't on this site. So there might be two of them.

My memory of the story is very vague but I believe the protagonist lived in a large, old (for the USA) mansion and was female.

sure sounds like the innkeeper series by Andrews. The innkeeper was a girl and the inn was an old house called Gertrude Hunt in a small Texas town. It was posted on their website for free before it was published.
I'm pretty sure that's not the story I'm thinking of. The protagonist went to great lengths to self-isolate and the mansion was not an inn.

It's just the authors blog. They (husband and wife writing team) offer some of their works for free there before they release it on the Zon. You can find it from the terms I have already listed if you are interested. I'd guess that the story is not the one you are asking about or else my clues would have jogged your memory.
There is only one story that I can think of on SOL with werecreatures and territorial marking as a major element.
