Bookapy/Kindle Question

Sparky-1953 ๐Ÿšซ

I've really enjoyed Banadin's Rick Jackson series here but they're gone. When Banadin/Ed Nelson put his last 3 stories on Bookapy I bought them and read on Adobe Digital Edition. Now all the Rick Jackson stories are only available on Amazon. Can you read kindle on Adobe Digital? I tried to google it and all I got was how to read Adobe on Kindle, not the reverse. I've tried to download the kindle reader to my computer several time but for some reason it never shows up in my download box.

Personally I think it's a flaw of Bookapy because you can't download a book you bought after the author has removed it. Even if the author removed it, if you bought it, you should be able to download it again, possibly in another format.
I always download html format so I never have problems with propriety formats. If I can only buy/download an epub I convert it back to html. Maybe you can use Calibre to convert them to a format that works.

Alas, that's an industry standard policy, as it protects the author's ability to remove his books from publication (i.e. releasing a new version or retiring and older, out-of-date book).

I'd prefer everyone retaining the rights to books they've purchased, but that flies in the face of established authors' print rights. Unfortunately, the same happens when a distributor (SW, D2D, etc.) punishes an author by deleting their accounts. It really doesn't the author, who can easily create another account the same day. Who it really punishes are the readers who published that authors books, and once those books are gone (while still available on the outlet), those readers will NEVER purchase another book from that distributor again!

My understanding is that once you buy a book it's in your bookshelf and if you log into Bookapy again you can re-read it from the bookshelf archive. But I could be wrong.

I though an author pulling the book simply stopped further sales, not access to purchased books.

I just confirmed I can still access a book after it has been removed.

I purchsed the Richard jackson Book 9 through Bookapy. If you do a search for it the Book is not found.

However, I log into my bookapy account, got to Bookshelf and the book is listed. Click on the title and book not found, click on EPUB, or Kindle or PDF on that title line and the file opens for me to be able to read the story or download it.

You're right, I bought the same book but it is removed when you click the book link. You can download again using the links on your bookshelf which I didn't try before.

ETA: To be clear: Bookapy is not flawed as I thought before, if you bought a book it's still available.

I'm sorry I wasn't clearer. I can still read my books from the Bookapy bookshelf. But that's only books 8 & 9. I don't believe books 1-7 were ever on Bookapy and are only available on Amazon Kindle now. I'd buy them there but I've tried to download the free Kindle for PC reader at least 3 times and it just won't cooperate. I'm probably doing something wrong but... I'm trying to find out if there is any way to read or convert Kindle to something compatible with Adobe Digital. When I search Google it only comes back with the reverse; how to convert EPUB/Adobe/PDF to Kindle. I'd like to be able to read the whole thing in one place.

Try this: https://epubor.com/how-to-read-kindle-books-on-adobe-digital-editions.html

Try Calibre...conversions and a reader.

There is also a Kindle reader app for PCs that can be downloaded from Amazon.

See above - he couldn't make that work for some reason.

Found the reason I can't use the Amazon Kindle reader. It only works for Windows 8 and newer, not Windows 7.

Most people (and especially independent authors) rely on Calibre (free software, though a fairly steep learning curve) to convert from/to virtually any ebook format. If all else fails, try Calibre. (It's how Indie Authors make various versions of their books, and in most cases, it supports the full range of formatting options, as it's based on basic html which is browser based and thus is computer hardware independent).

I don't believe books 1-7 were ever on Bookapy and are only available on Amazon Kindle now.

That's because Banadin took the stories as originally published here on SOL and FineStories (My Summer Vacation 1958; Ninth Grade 1958-1959; Summer Vacation 1959; Tenth Grade 1959) and reworked them for publishing on Amazon.
The now numbered Books 1 to 7 contain the same text but with different chapter length.
Therefore Book 8 (Oxford) is the sequel to Tenth Grade 1959.
BTW, he did a (re)posting of books 1โ€“3 here on Sol and the last chapter of book 3 (Ch.47) is Chapter 26 of Ninth Grade 1958-1959, at about โ…” of the book.

Good for Lazeez, yet another reason to frequent Bookapy than other outlets (like Amazon), along with lower author earnings and restricted access and single formats.

Have you tried contacting Amazon support over that?

XofDallas ๐Ÿšซ

@Sparky-1953

I think the earlier Richard Jackson books were on Bookapy at one time, but were removed once they went live on Amazon. If you purchased them on Bookapy, they should still be in your bookshelf. If you did not, you have to go through Amazon. I like the stories, so I tend to purchase them as soon as they're up on Bookapy.

The problem I have is reading them when I don't have internet access, such as when I'm flying and in airplane mode. If I remember correctly, downloading them from my bookshelf on Bookapy to adobe digital editions on my phone shortly before takeoff usually allows me to read them, but sometimes that doesn't work, or I mess up what I'm supposed to be doing - take your pick.

The polite words for me are "technologically challenged."

The books are available as (a) Read on the site - (b) epub - (c) kindle - (d) pdf.

For (a) you need Internet access, for (c) I believe you need Internet access for the Kindle app to access the story - not sure as I've never used kindle for anything except starting a wood fire. For (b) and (d) you can just download the file to your device and read where ever you want to, unless there's an issue with your device at downloading the file. I mention the last as I have heard of some readers that will not download a file and save it on the device.

But once it has downloaded to the Kindle reader, you no longer need Internet access.
On my Kindle i have it in Aeroplane mode most of the time. With the wifi disabled the battery lasts longer- i only enable it when i want to download a newly purchased story.
