I have had a memory of a story I read some time ago. In the middle of the story a young lad (who cannot explain how he knows) finds a young girl who has been kidnapped (stolen?) There is evidence of other youngsters having been abused and murdered. The two go on the run pursued by the baddies and after some bloodshed he phones a relative of the girl

...which is because it was some mental power

There's a outside chance it was a aubie56 story, but I think not.
I'm pretty sure I read the story OP is talking about, and fairly certain it isn't Second Chance.
Problem really is narrowing down the possibilities. 'Gay' kinda fits except for the last bit. It could be a John Wales story (he liked to reuse story elements, and he had similar feats occur in a couple stories that don't really match.
