The first one is a teenage schoolboy who moves to a new school and has a rowing machine in his room and then joins the rowing team.
From memory, his parents are wither well off, or they are US ambassadors or something along those lines.
The second one may be the same story but I do not think it is. The one scene that comes to mind is the main character smarts of at a rowing regatta and a college kid breaks his nose....
