This story takes place in the UK with most of it in Scotland.
An old man is going home one night when he comes across someone being attacked by a gang. He goes to help and in the melee he falls across the body just as a tractor beam retrieves the injured alien. They can't put him back as his body, on earth, has died. The alien offers to place him back on earth at an earlier time when he could also do them a favour. The alien had years previously been helped by a young woman and when he went back to check on her, at this time, he discovered she had committed suicide due to a rape attempt, by her brother, and her subsequent feelings of helplessness. His mission would be to befriend her and prevent her from committing suicide.
