I know there was a thread about this before, but I spent some time going over the old topics and couldn't find it.
I had a copy on my old system, but it went the way of my system so now I have to find it again.
Thanks in advance for any help.

sounds like you're after Castle in the Sand by Deana Johns aka thaumaturge aka D J Pedersen.
Castle in the Sand? If it is, you seem to be in luck: you posted in an old thread that you had the story on your google drive. Looks like it's still there!

I totally forgot about looking there. I did find it online as well:

Oppsss sorry you was looking for a story but it reminded me of this. The things you watch when stuck in a bed in a hospital.

I know. I spent my time with my tablet rereading SOL stories.
Hope you get to go home soon
Oh I did read some SOL stories and ended up getting a lecture and told I was a BAD BAD boy from the hospital morals committee. The nurses and floor staff once they found out what I was reading had no problem with me or what I read. My problem came from a group that would go from room to room offering religion and while I was out of the room they look at my tablet and didn't like my choice of material.
I am home this was from a year ago and I would give everyone a advise everyone to not break both your legs at the same time as it will cause you some inconvenience.
@palamedes
I would have sued their asses for violation of privacy
Better yet report them to the hospital administration and maybe hint at some publicity if their activities aren't curtailed.
My condolences, I grabbed my nook when I went to the ER Sun. There was no way I was going to be there, bleeding, with nothing to do. I don't remember what I was reading, could have been professional or SOL. As for the Morals Committee? read the Song of Songs out loud, and then tell them to keep perverts out of your room.

Oh don't get me wrong I told them my mind I also know that it will not change how they will do things. I'm just glade that I had great doctors and nurses the doctor could have easily took my right leg but he decided that I was a healthy young man and there was nothing to lose it making an attempt in trying to save the leg ( give you an idea it took 2 doctor and 4 interns to hold and place all the pieces back in order and I still was missing 2.5in or 6.35cm and over 4 hours in surgery ) with the out come being I'm back up and walking again on my own 2 legs might not be back to what I was before the accident.
As for suing I wouldn't be able to do that because the hospital office staff we be happy to point out that they are not responsible for your personal property and any valuable items should be kept with you at all time. As for the group that started the problem well I guess I'm an (your personal choice of experlatives) because I did file charges and a judge decided that 10 hours of community service was an ok punishment.
You probably can't sue the hospital as you suspect. That does not mean you can't sue the asshats who violated your privacy.
If you have any charge at all that got them even ten days public service, it would be enough to stand up in civil court. This I know from personal experience.
Sorry about your leg, but as you stated, there were worse outcomes possible. There are folks missing limbs because of lazy medical types who don't want to even try. You are fortunate to have had a good team working on you.
My firm was asked to bid one of those projects many years ago by some venture capital types. They wanted an "upscale survivalist chic resort," whatever the hell that was, in the invitation to bid for the front end engineering and design (FEED) contract. We didn't make it past the asbestos problem before declining, much less the near total lack of original build documentation.
It would require some old Air Force type engineers who had prior knowledge to competently take on such a project.
