I read the story maybe half a year ago. A guy got hit by lightning and wakes up back in the past( I think before 1970). As far as i remember he wakes up in a field.
He started a business mowing lawns than expanded into painting housenumbers. Afterwards he and some girls buy a house as an office and expand the business into cleaning office buildings.
I think you have combined two memories. The first paragraph is 'Hal - The Beginning' by Ernest Bywater.
The second is correct, 'Emend by Eclipse'.
Both good stories.

@LonelyDad Havent read Hal yet so i think i remember a different story. Never really enjoyed Ernest Bywaters writing style. Thought he does have interesting stories.
Let us know what the 1st story is as I definitely think you are thinking of 2 stories,,,the 2nd being emend by eclipse..
I don't think the 1st one is Hal by EB as it isn't a doover, and he got hit by lightning in a field while in the back of a truck but wakes up in the hospital,,,

Lightning in a Bottle by Sage Mullins has the protagonist waking up in a field after being thrown back by lightning, but he only went as far back as 1980 (iirc).
In Emend By Eclipse there are 2 protagonists (who were friends previously) that went back in time after dying during a total eclipse of the sun.
IIRC they used the money from mowing a few lawns to start the business painting house numbers on curbs. They then used that money to start the lawn mowing business while still doing curbs on weekends.
I really enjoyed this story. I've also enjoyed all the rest of his stories.

so just finished reading emend by eclipse and it was the story i was looking for. The Opening I rememberd was indeed lightning in a bottle that @marissaHorne pointed out.
But it's primarily a percussion piece with very quick sequences of notes. It's possible to whistle a very slow version, but I can't believe anyone would choose to do it willingly.

Tchaikovsky did actually write some vocal pieces, including several operas. However they pale in comparison to his orchestral works.
