It starts off with a college student going into a mine shaft for research. While he's in there a virus is released globally, and upon returning to the surface he gets an RV and starts making radio transmissions looking for survivors. He hooks up with an older woman, but she eventually leaves him for a man her own age. They later find a large community and join it, where he finds a girl more his own age, but they get attacked and the hero dies.
For some reason I thought it was by Coaster2 or CWatson but I didn't see it in their stories.
