The story starts with the wife and her lover near the end of a weekend away. She's standing on a balcony? patio? at a vacation retreat, rethinking and questioning all the choices that led her there. She's already angry and resentful and takes it out on her lover. The story's told in sort of reverse order; the next scene (more or less) is the point where she told her husband she was going away with her lover. The rest of the story (it's multi-chapter) is about slowly working back to the point where she and her husband stopped communicating, both verbally and sexually. My recollection is that it ends in reconciliation, but I may be misremembering. The husband may also have had an affair, but I could be conflating it with another story.
My gut tells me "weekend" is in the title, but I could be *very* wrong about that.
