Boy/prince thrown in stable by queen or step mother but survives to take over
It may not be Ka Hmnd.
The story I thought it might be is as follows; Boy's mother died and father remarried, and the father died before the boy is 18. Stepmom doesn't inherit all of the father's fortune and forces the boy to live in the stable (or garage), later she and the stepbrother try to force him to sign away his inheritance.
Do you remember the name of this story?

I think I remember this one but can't remember the title or author. The boy spends his nights in the palace, hidden from the evil female, but during the day a sister? drops him off at the army barracks and he grows up to be a mighty warrior.

Since it's early and I've just got up the Ka Hmnd story you're thinking of (or rather Zellus is thinking of) is Ugly Duckling, I don't think it made it to this site.
Thanks for your help! It was somehow deleted from my archive (or I've completely forgotten to save it). Wayback machine is a great tool.
