jackda3214 ๐Ÿšซ

What happened to all of the Far past stories? There used to be a lot of them. You know.. Guy gets sent back to cave man days..(most of the time its done by aliens).. There was one that was Massively long. Argent and...Something.

A lot of them have probably been archived. Which means you need a premium account to see them.

Just checked. I see 33 stories tagged as far past.

John and Argent. And it's still there. It has been archived, so you need a premier account to access it.

Lame.. Thanks for the response.

Some would also likely be tagged as time travel and not far past, so check that as well.

you're welcome. One issue with category searches is a story with tags set before a new tag is introduced don't get updated with the new tag unless the author spots the new tag and re tags the stories that need it, Far Past is one of the new tags, like Rags to Riches - thus many of the stories that should have those tags don't.

Have you ever consider a debit card?

Have you ever consider a debit card?

I use a VISA debit card from my bank - if the account has insufficient funds in it the charge is bounced and I have to pay cash or make other arrangements. Since I got rid of my credit card 15 years ago debt has been easier to manage as it's non-existent beyond what the government demands I pay when not expecting it.

Can't use visa gift cards.

That would be an issue with the banks and not SoL. You may wish to consider this information:

Try that from the Netherlands. Not gonna happen, I tried. They don't even know what I talking about. It appears we're way ahead of the US/Canada when it comes to digital payments. The reason is mainly that the CC companies would loose too much if some of the systems we have available would become popular. There's a reason CC's aren't common here in Europe for the average consumer.

It's years since I tried it, but you used to be able to go to a bank and get an internation bank cheque in any currency which you can then post through the mail.

Yeah, like we're back in the middle ages :D Apparently that's not possible here anymore using a bank, maybe through an exchange office but that will cost you.

Totally agree I'm a fan and have read most of his stories.

Although I do get confused with his use of I've and I have but I'm easy to confuse love every story of his I have read.

Ernest Bywater ๐Ÿšซ

there are 11,611 exclusive stories out of 45,346 stories on SoL - plus extra search and library capabilities. I think it's worth it, but many others don't.

If no readers subscribe to the site it would probably have to go out of business. Keeping stuff online isn't free. When readers stop paying the costs, you get things like what happened to ASSTR. Or worse. If you aren't sure if it is worth the higher cost of subscribing think about what would happen if all the other readers did the same. Paying for what you get free might be a good idea, even if it weren't for the other things like the 11 thousand exclusive stories you get if you decide to send a check, or give up your credit card number.

Whenever anyone makes the argument for free stuff, I remind them of the TANSTAAFL principle, i.e. There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch. ASSTR is a fine example of that principle.

I used a Visa debit card from my credit union for years to pay my SOL subscription with no problems. Last year, the credit union switched from Visa to a Mastercard debit card. What a Pain in the Ass! Mastercard debit blocks all transactions outside of the USA. To pay my SOL subscription or buy a book from Bookapy requires a separate call to my credit union for an exemption for every purchase.

For anybody that doesn't like credit cards but needs one, there is a service called Privacy (here is my referral link if you want to use it; you get $5 and so do I: https://privacy.com/join/JXRW9) that links to your bank account (I actually connect it to an online account that I keep a limited amount of money in, just in case) and creates credit card numbers that you can apply limits to and use online. Once you make a purchase with one, it is locked to that merchant and can't be used anywhere else so if the number is stolen in a breach or something, it will get denied if it's used elsewhere. You can also limit the amount allowed per transaction and per day or month. You can also pause them or kill them at any time. You can create 12 per month for free or pay for more with a few extra features and cash back. You can also use any billing address and name so you don't have to provide personal information. I use them for sites that I may not trust with my info or for trial subscriptions that may be difficult to end (just turn off the card to stop the billing). I'm not sure if I've used one for an international transaction, but I would think it should work. There are mobile apps and browser plugins that make it easy to use. Just an idea for those that don't want to or can't use a credit card but need one.
