baseball player becomes a minor league owner

rustyken ๐Ÿšซ

I read a good story a while back but don't remember the title or author. If I remember it correctly the main character is a professional ball player who then becomes the owner of a minor league club.

I've looked at several stories and have yet to find it. In my review of baseball stories, I've had the joy of reading many of them.

Cheers

I think you may be thinking of A Flawed Diamond which is a follow on from The Outsider, both by Jay Cantrell. If I remember correctly there's a scene where he mentions being a part owner or owner of a minor league team while he's still playing in the MLB. A Flawed Diamond revolves around his life and him playing in the MLB.

The only other candidate I can think of is Dual Writers Oh Boy.

However, my story Play Ball! has a player who makes the MLB but goes back to play most of his long career in the minors as he prefers the team atmosphere there. However, he isn't an owner, although there is a section where the clubs ownership changes hands at his suggestion.

To A Flawed Diamond:
He is a part-owner of two minor league teams โ€“ one in Columbia, S.C., and the other in El Paso, Texas - something mentioned in chapters 66 and 90. Yes, really peripheral to the main story.

Thanks for the response, but in the story I remember the MC was actively involved in running the minor league team. Based on my memory it resembles some of the latter portion of "Play-Ball".

The only story in the Tony Stevens series which even remotely fits is the first, I think it is called Bottom Rung.
He is not the owner there, just the manager.

Thanks for the reply. I've read all three suggestions and they are great stories. However, they aren't the story I remember.

Second Chance by number 7 had a life like that. He and his father in law worked together. It had to be early in the series, I dropped out pretty early. I really liked that life story segment.
