I read a story a few months ago where a teen boy got stuck by lightning and gained special powers(healing plus a few other things). I think that someone found out about it and started attacking his family. He gained power from any form of electricity including plug sockets.
I can't find it now. Does anyone know it?
Is it possible that the story was on beyondthefarhorizon ? For all I know it could even be a published SF story but I don't think it was posted here.
It definitely rings a bell though, something I read 10+ years ago.
Update: I had a story downloaded from GMW's BtFH but must have deleted it later. A teenager was struck by a meteorite or something, and he gained an alien presence in his head. He then accumulated some superpowers and eventually got involved in an interplanetary war. It may still be on the site but I did not bother re-registering after the site went down. If you never went to that site then it probably won't be that story anyway.

nearly all of JRyter's stories had been on SoL for many years until he pulled them about a year ago to post them on Patreon, and when he had issues with them he came back to SoL and has been re-posting his stories since then. So if it is one of his stories it may well have been seen on SoL many years ago when it was first posted.
Your first sentence made me think of Ernest Bywater's Hal - The Beginning though the rest doesn't match.
