I read this one a long time ago and think it's about time to read it again. A kid and his best friend, who's from the middle east, live next door to one another. He is visiting at the friend's house one night when the friend's father comes home in a rage. The friend is accidentally killed by the father. The kid decides that he will never let something like that happen to his friends or family again and starts karate classes. The sensei is named Ken; the dead friend has a beautiful sister; the boy has an older brother who is a football player. Enough? I remember more if it's not.
