I thought this was an Ernest Bywater story but may be mistaken. I remember the MC gets land with a burned down house on it. Under the house is a still and locked room with old barrels of whiskey. Tunnels lead to other houses/farms in the area. I know it's not much to go on but that's mostly what I remember.
